Lyle Probst

Chief Executive Officer, Director and Founder

Mr. Probst joined PositiveID in 2011. He has 20 years of executive management and product development experience at PositiveID and MicroFluidic Systems, SAIC, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), including a series of bio-detection programs such as the Department of Homeland Security Science & Technology BAND program, development and deployment of BioWatch Generation 1, and a subject matter expert within the Biodefense Knowledge Center at LLNL, and principal investigator/developer of the high-throughput Bio-Watch mobile laboratory at SAIC Corp. Mr. Probst was previously the Director of Capillary Electrophoresis and Director of Chemistries at the Joint Genome Institute. He holds a B.S. in Biology and an M.B.A in Executive Management. Mr. Probst works at the company’s Pleasanton, CA office.

Kimothy Smith

Chief Science Officer and Director

Dr. Smith joined PositiveID in 2012. He served as Senior Advisor for International Biodefense at DHS’ Office of Health Affairs, and as Acting Director of the National Biosurveillance Integration Center, where he set the strategy of a government-wide effort to acquire, aggregate, analyze, interpret and disseminate biosurveillance information from public and private sectors for epidemiological analyses and health protection.  He also worked at LLNL, serving as the Deputy Division Leader for Operations in the Counter-terrorism and Incident Response Division of the Non-proliferation, Arms Control and International Security Directorate. He has earned his PhD in molecular epidemiology from Louisiana State University where he curated the worldwide Bacillus anthraces collection. Dr. Smith works at the company’s Pleasanton, CA office.


William J. Caragol

Chairman and Founder

William J. Caragol became Chairman and CEO of PositiveID in 2011, and has served as its president since its inception. He has also served in other executive management roles at PositiveID. Previously, Caragol was the vice president of business development and chief financial officer of Millivision Technologies, a technology company focused on security applications. Prior to his role at Millivision Technologies, Caragol was a consulting partner with East Wind Partners LLP, a technology and telecommunications consulting company, in Washington, D.C, and spent eight years at Deloitte and Touche. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and graduated from the Washington & Lee University with a bachelor's degree in Administration and Accounting.
